Manufactured by Norwegian firm Trolla, this Brug 864 wood burning stove is both practical and wonderfully decorative. The front is decorated with a beautifully cast scene depicting a man riding a reindeer over a mountainous landscape - apparently reindeer racing is a big tradition in Norway!
Trolla Brug made cast iron stoves from 1830 till 1980, when they were bought out in 1980 by Jøtul. According to the internet their original manufacturing site is now home to a biker gang - metal indeed!
Trolla stoves were imported to the UK to make use of the abundance of timber which was being scrapped due to Dutch Elm disease in the 1970s & 1980s. Many of Trolla's stoves are decorated with scenes and characters from traditional folklore, including the Billy Goats Gruff and the Troll.
