This beautiful interpretation of Pygmalion’s statue of Galatea, complete with matching pedestal, is crafted from Cornish Farron stone with Cornish pewter and tin embellishments.
According to Greek mythology, the sculptor Pygmalion fell in love with an ivory statue he had crafted with his own hands and named Galatea. In answer to his prayers, the goddess Aphrodite brought the statue to life and united the couple in marriage.
The figure is beautifully modelled, with flowing diaphanous robes and a metal belt and headdress. The fluted column pedestal perfectly complements the classical look.
