This superb large American Ambergs haberdashery cabinet is a spectacular piece which combines fantastic looks with a huge amount of practical storage.
Crafted from mahogany, the cabinet has thirty good sized drawers, and two pull out writing surfaces, all of which run freely. Ideal for storing paperwork in a home office, it would also make a great shirt cabinet in a smart bedroom or dressing room. We think it would also look wonderful in a retail environment. The piece is in good original condition, with the addition of a smart new set of number plates. Many of the drawers still have their original paper filing labels stuck to the inside.
The Cameron Amberg & Co firm was established in 1868 and made its first cabinet letter files in 1875, winning an award from the American institute, New York. In 1876 its cabinet letter files were awarded a medal at the Centennial Exposition. By 1893 the company changed to Amberg Letter & File Co where they produced items such as this cabinet, for the higher end of the market.
