Antique Major Collins Wooden Military Trunk RW

Steeped in history, this wonderful military trunk is a real talking point. The trunk would have been made to transport a saddle and is stamped with J I Sowter, who were synonymous with making saddles and harnesses of the finest grade for royalty, the elite and the military. The trunk bears the name Major William Fellowes Collins of the Royal Scots Greys. On the 17 September 1865, Collins was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on 6th February 1889 and became a Lieutenant on 15th October 1890. He was later promoted to Captain on 5th July 1896. He reached the rank of Colonel in the regiment and was awarded the DSO. On the 23rd November 1907 he married Lady Evelyn Anne Innes-Ker daughter of the 7th Duke of Roxburghe. They had a son, Arthur and a daughter, Anne, and lived at Cundall Manor, Helperby, Yorkshire, and Knaresborough House, Yorkshire. Colonel Collins died on the 15th February 1948.

This trunk has fantastic provenance, we’ve even found a photo online of Collins. It would make a wonderful toy chest, coffee table, blanket box or a great collector’s item.
